We had a long list of outside projects to work on this weekend, and made good progress on it. This was one of them. We wanted a place to put an herb garden, and this was a good spot. It gets plenty of afternoon sun, and wasn't being used for anything else. Plus, it was at the end of a drip line, so it was easy to add some more fittings & have everything automatically watered. We planted basil, chives, oregano, rosemary, and two kinds of thyme. Plus, there is mint in the pot you see on the left. The rosemary is the vertical kind, so we'll train it up the fence as it grows.
The mandevilla we planted in the back to grow up the trellis behind the hot tub isn't cutting it. We did a bit more research, and this time, also looked to see what was at the local nursery. This week, we are going to plant a Clematis Armandii, you can see one here . They are well suited to cooler weather (they do well in Seattle, I guess) are rapid growing but not invasive, use tendrils to vine, but don't "attach" themselves to things like stucco & brick. They only bloom once a year, but when they do, it looks nice. We'll see. It's an inexpensive plant, and if it covers most of the trellis with green, we'll be happy with that!
